A school bond is a way for school districts to raise money for large projects like building new schools, renovating existing buildings, or improving facilities. It’s similar to a loan that the community pays back over time through property taxes.

The Western Heights 2025 Bond is an important step in meeting the needs of our students, teachers, and community. Many of our schools are decades old, with aging systems, limited space, and structural challenges that no longer fit today’s educational and safety needs.

The total bond is $146 million, divided into two propositions with NO TAX INCREASE!

  • Proposition 1 ($142M): This covers districtwide renovation projects, safety and security upgrades, technology enhancements, and textbooks.
  • Proposition 2 ($4M): Focused on transportation, specifically school buses.

This bond will make a big difference for our students by improving their schools and creating better opportunities for learning and growth. Here’s how:

  1. Better Classrooms
Updated classrooms will be more comfortable, flexible, and ready for the programs and technology our students need to succeed.
  2. Safer Schools
Security updates like secure entrances and playground improvements will help keep our students safe every day.
  3. More Resources
Renovated gyms, cafeterias, and media centers will give students better spaces to learn, play, and grow.
  4. A Sense of Pride
Fresh, modern schools will help students feel proud of where they go to school, inspiring confidence and excitement to learn.
  5. Preparation for the Future
Upgraded high school spaces and technology will get students ready for college, careers, and whatever their next steps may be.

In Oklahoma, bond funds are for capital improvements and long-term projects, such as:

  • Building new facilities or additions
  • Renovating and repairing existing spaces
  • Enhancing safety features, technology, and athletic facilities

Bond funds cannot be used for day-to-day expenses like:

  • Salaries, utilities, or routine maintenance
  • Classroom supplies or administrative costs

The goal is to invest in the physical infrastructure to support students and community growth.

It takes 60% of voters to approve the bond for it to pass. If it doesn’t pass, we won’t be able to make the important updates our schools need. Students will have to keep learning in older buildings, some with safety concerns or outdated spaces. Over time, repairs and upgrades will only get more expensive. This bond is a chance to improve our schools now, helping students, teachers, and the whole community without waiting for bigger problems down the road.

The bond election is on Tuesday, February 11th, with polls open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.
